AIR HITAM EDUCATIONAL FOREST, or AID as it is affectionately known amongst the birding community and photographers alike, is located in Seberang Perai Utara. It is a freshwater swamp spanning approximately 10ha named after the nearby river which is “deep” (dalam in the Malay language) and “dark” (hitam, meaning black). Andrew and Karen Jordan

are originally from the UK but have lived in Penang since 2016. They discovered Penang back in 2005 during their first trip to Asia, where they celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary. They started birding and photography in 2017 when they got their first camera. Since then, this fantastic hobby has taken them to some stunning places to see amazing birdlife and nature, along with meeting really interesting people around Malaysia and Southeast Asia, whilst travelling around on a 650cc motorbike.
